Could you clarify the rules regarding the number of guests who can stay?
We humbly request 18 people max, as we want folks in luxury and comfort in the 9 bedrooms we have.
And so the home remains pristine for future guests such as yourself.
For flexibility and minor additions, please speak with your hosts.
What are the possibilities of organizing a wedding at your property?
Congratulations on the wedding - a monumental moment indeed!
To your specific query about about hosting the wedding on the property.
Apologies but - we have not done that prior, and we are not zoned for a large public gathering. Also, we're not setup for large events and we worry about the safety of the structures (the deck, the dock, pond safety etc.). Finally, not sure if the city will require us to have permits, licenses etc. We haven't looked into that.
A common scenario with us is if a wedding party stays over (and has the wedding at another venue). For that scenario, we humbly request, as always, 18 people max, as we want folks in luxury and comfort in the 9 bedrooms we have. And so the home remains pristine for future guests such as yourself.
Thank you once again for your kind consideration of our home. We wish you all the very best and truly congratulate you on the start of a new journey.
What should we know about the pond, the wildlife, and our safety while exploring?
Notes on pond, wildlife and safety:
a) Pond is great and clean etc.. There will be a couple kayaks and a canoe provided. About swimming in it - we have never swum in the pond or added any chemicals to it. Did not grow up in the area and do not know too much about ponds in Indiana. We had the water checked once by a pond person based out of Seymour and they said that the water was perfect and needed no treatment. Having said that, the water is not clear like a swimming pool's is. It is opaque but has a healthy amount of fish. Rarely (once per year or less), a water snake or a rat snake has been sighted on the acreage.
b) There are turtles that occasionally pop-up either sun-bathing on a log by the pond or on the grass some where.
c) We have seen deer and turkey quite a few times in all seasons - they may or may not appear. We do not ever allow any hunting on the property. As you know fishing is also catch and release and in moderation only. On a bright sunny day, you can see decent amount of healthy fish in the pond.
d) There's woodpeckers that we can hear in the woods and other birds also.
Finally, there is no lifeguard and pond safety is 100% your responsibility. It is also too small to jetski (under 2 acres).
Please let us know in case of any other questions. Cheers :-)
Describe the kitchen essentials available for use.
Please don't hold us to the exact items but most of these should be available.
Some things change from guest stays over time - things break or get burnt and we try and check-in/replenish every few months.
18 piece dinnerware/flatware ceramic and steel (plates spoons forks etc.)
many coffee mugs :-)
wine glasses
beverage glasses
cooking pots and pans
serving bowls / dishes
Keurig machine and we provide many pods (maybe 30 in the stand that carries those)
Baking pan / roasting pan
Blender
Toaster
2 dishwashers
2 microwaves
Hope this helps! We look forward to welcoming you.
Are supplies like firewood, propane, and coffee replenished regularly?
Sure - a quick note about firewood, propane, coffee and other replenishables.
We provide - paper towels, bath rolls, shampoos, conditioners, lotion, lots of diff kinds of k-cup coffee, dishwasher tabs, laundry tabs. We also provide luxurious towels. Kitchen is well stocked with utensils, flatware, and nice appliances (digital double ovens in the wall, double waterwall dishwashers). Laundry has dual washer dryers (modern, Samsung). There's two small grills also. There's a firepit by the house and a makeshift one on the other side of the pond. There's also some outdoor seating (a couple benches, some chairs and small table etc.) - can bring some along if feasible for you. Hot tub should be fully emptied and cleaned by the crew and be ready for use.
We do our best to frequently supplement other items. As you can imagine, some guests go through a lot (pretty much every provided bit) and some do not touch one or more of these items. It's hard for us (time commitment wise) to stock up as a hotel would, before every guest checkin. Basically pickup used tanks, refill and then drive back and drop it off - all after previous guest checkout and before next guest checkin while laundry for 8 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, cleanup of huge kitchen and dual living room and hot tub water change is in progress.. sometimes within a 4 hr. window.
Having said that. there's two gas stations at exit 64 (off of I65) - the exit for the home and they're only 8 minutes from the property, and they both carry firewood and propane.
So our policy is to have at least two / three propane tanks available. These may be empty or may have propane in them but humbly requesting you to please be prepared to replenish at the gas station (or a place of your choice, including any Walmart). For firewood, it is best to purchase on your drive in to 12000 Moores at those nearby locations.. We used to provide firewood - but multiple guests would leave fires burning throughout their stay and have even tossed log seating that we provided into bonfires. So trying to balance that out with needing to go through more checklists through the week as folks check in and out..
Regarding coffee makers -
There is a nice Keurig that takes KCups only, and we provide a generous amount of cups of different varieties as well. The Keurigs, we end up buying a new coffee maker every 2-3 months.
There is a conventional coffee-maker in the house. If you have any issues with it - please let us know and we will bring by a new one.
Do let us know in case of any questions and what we can do to make your stay memorable!
Do you charge for the kayaks and the canoe?
The kayaks and canoe are for our guests at no extra charge.
Please remember to take the provided life jackets when using these as there is no lifeguard on duty.
As stated earlier, all safety is your responsibility.
What's the policy on early arrivals (check-in) or late departures (check-out)?
We are excited to host you and your group.
To your question about checking in early on the date of arrival and/or checking out late - we are traveler ourselves and encourage it and don't charge either!
The only caveat is that we often get bookings for the night prior to your arrival or the day of your leaving, then our ninja cleaning crew requires a good 4-5 hours (from 10 until 3) to get the house (exterior, full laundry for 9 beds, hot tub drain and refill, clean large kitchen, two living areas etc.) ready to our impeccable standards.
So we would encourage closer to your stay (T-10 days) to re-check with us.
In any case, on the day of arrival, guests are welcome to come by early, drop their luggage, hang out at the deck or by the firepit, check out the pond etc.
Do let us know if there is anything else we can do to make your experience memorable and super-pleasant!!
What kind of Internet and TV access does the property offer?
Thanks for your query around our Internet and TVs.
We have a 85"" 4K TV in the first large living room. It has 3 HDMI ports and probaly 1 port free/available through cords near the console below it.
We did have a $3000 Samsung curved TV in the basement, but it was shattered during a recent stay - no one owned up and we did not push the topic. We have now replaced it with a 75"
We also have two - three other TVs, one in the pool table room and another in the Paris bedroom upstairs.
As for internet - it’s a really long story but Moores Vineyard Road has not had fiber or cable internet for decades. Folks in the area have been relying on satellite or other offerings which are expensive but slow for e-learning, virtual meetings, Netflix - things that city dwellers take for granted.
So the only Internet provider we’ve had is through satellite [Viasat/Exede]. The cost is around $200 every month for ""unlimited use"" but the speed is slow to make unlimited use of it, lol. Speed is ok (5-20 mbps) for normal browsing.
Cellular service is also limited (~2 bars).
Us and neighbors have petitioned the city, but it will be a while to remedy the situation. We are also on the wait-list for Starlink (Elon Musk/Space X) internet and hope it can arrive in the next few months.
Having said all of that, if internet speed is a show stopper, we understand and wouldn't want our customers unhappy.
For some of our guests, the remoteness or opportunity to slow down from constant high speed connection is a huge plus - and a way to get through lesson planning or completing research or just plain relax - kind of like during a long flight.
However, please let us know if you'd like to send a trusted person to check things out before you book. Thank you!
Can you explain the noise policy and why it's important, given the large size of the property?
Guests are 100% welcome to play music by the firepit etc. and that shouldn't be a problem at all. One set of repeat guests we get from a large company in Indianapolis - their *main* purpose is the hangout by the firepit.
But noise does matter - here's why:
a ) The house is on a side of the property and is not smack in the center of the acreage. During winter for example with no foliage, we can see a couple of the neighbors homes.
b) The road leading up to the home is common (until it reaches our long driveway) and there are 3 homes on that road.
c) It is 100% quiet since we have no traffic or movement of any sort from anywhere. Sound carries for quiet some distance in that nice serene setting.
So, if you're planning on bringing a concert speaker setup - well then, we should chat, lol! But if is reasonable music or noise (small speakers) or personal guitar etc. outside / after hours, all should be good.
Let us know in case of further questions!
Could you elaborate on the cancellation policy, which I've heard is quite liberal?
For a large home and a lot of guests, people seldom book at the last minute, it's usually weeks or months in advance, so we'd certainly appreciate more notice to have scope for others to rebook should you decide to cancel.
But in light of current circumstances, we are being extra-flexible and doing our part to provide for a stress-free experience and our guests love us! :-)
We choose the most liberal cancellation policies allowed, on any portal that we list on.
Hope this helps! Please contact us for details on your specific booking.
What's the policy regarding bringing pets, particularly dogs, to the property?
We love furry friends as much as anyone else!
A serious constraint we have though, is that many of our guests (young and old) prefer our accommodation due to our features such as hypoallergenic pillows and spotlessly clean interiors - that makes it a challenge to allow pets - hence our no pets policy.
Given that constraint, if it would be feasible to have your pet strictly in the garage only, alongwith a safe source of regulating temperature - we can know your thoughts on that. We will need your assurance that the dog doesn't enter the home.
Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
Many older guests specifically ask that question multiple times to get assurance and we want to maintain their trust and our responsibility to them also.. Similarly, a person with cancer and her 6 closest friends connected with us last year (their last vacation together) and those type of personal situations put things in perspective for us.
Trying to balance things out, hope you understand.
Is it permissible to set up tents on the property?
In terms of tents, apologies, we've never done those before.
Also, safety on the grounds is your responsibility - and we do not know if we need any insurance for that. Best to avoid.
Thank you.
Can you tell us about the outdoor furniture available at your property?
Will complete tomorrow. Long answer.
